Karen McWilliams is a distinguished strategic legal executive with a proven track record of providing regulatory and compliance counsel to publicly traded and not-for-profit entities. She possesses extensive experience across the commercial, financial, government services, and information technology sectors. Currently, she is the CEO/CLO of Maplewood Advisors, US LLC, and the fractional General Counsel of PVD Spectrum. Its parent company, Anterix, Inc., is the largest holder of licensed nationwide spectrum in the 900 MHz band throughout the contiguous United States, Hawaii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico.
Ms. McWilliams' expertise in government contracting was most recently demonstrated at Scientific Applications International Corporation(SAIC), where she held the position of Deputy General Counsel, Corporate. During her seven-year tenure, she advised SAIC's Executive Leadership Team and Chief Human Resources Officers on legal matters concerning Human Resources, Executive Compensation, Benefits, Affirmative Action, Employee Relations, and Labor Relations law. In 2023, her responsibilities expanded to include support for Enterprise Operations. Before joining SAIC, Ms. McWilliams was the global head of employment law for E*TRADE Financial, a publicly traded brokerage firm and bank that is now a Morgan Stanley Company. Earlier in her career, she was a labor and employment litigation partner at DLA Piper US, LLP, served as a district court substitute judge for Virginia's Nineteenth Judicial Circuit (Fairfax County), and was an adjunct law professor at her alma mater. A recipient of multiple accolades, Ms. McWilliams was recognized in 2021 by Washington Exec as a “General Counsel to Watch.” Law & Politics magazine also named her a “Super Lawyer” in Virginia and D.C. She is a member of both the District of Columbia Bar and the Virginia State Bar. Ms. McWilliams holds a Juris Doctor from George Mason University Antonin Scalia School of Law and a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Virginia, Curry School of Education and Human Development. She is also the proud mother of two adult children who are employed and reside in Northern Virginia.
