Reston Scholarship Fund
Fairfax
The mission of the Reston Scholarship Fund is to reinforce one of the goals set by founding father Robert Simon in 1962 for the new town of Reston. As he intended, Reston has from its beginning been a community of diverse income levels. In our public schools, students of different economic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds have long advanced together from kindergarten through high school. But when Reston was founded, only 11.4 percent of males and 6.7 percent of women went on to receive a college degree; there were still plenty of jobs for those who did not. Not so today. Further education or training is essential, yet soaring costs leave many lower-income Reston graduates behind.
The mission of the RSF is to reach out and lend a hand to qualified South Lakes High School students, to help them across the widening gap between rich and poor, fulfilled, and disappointed - because they are our neighbors' children.
