Collective Philanthropy for Local Women
The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia’s Business Women’s Giving Circle (BWGC) announced the winners of its fifth annual grant cycle today. A total of $52,500 has been awarded to four local nonprofit organizations and schools that provide STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) programs to girls and young women in Northern Virginia. To date, the BWGC has awarded $230,500 in grants.

This grant supports programs that improve the wellness and quality of life of our aging neighbors. The Arc of Northern Virignia received a $7,500 grant in 2018 from the Education Fund through the Community Investment Funds grant cycle. This grant supported the innovative new use of mobile apps that allow people with disabilites to navigate the tasks of everyday life. The Arc of Northern Virginia shared the following inspirational story to show the impact of this support in our community.

Girls on the Run of Northern Virginia received an $8,500 grant in 2018 from the Child & Youth Develompent Fund through the Community Investment Funds grant cycle. This fund supports porgrams that help children and youth obtain the education, support, services and opportunities they need to thrive. The grant helped Girls on the Run NOVA expand into an economically disadvantaged school. They shared the following inspirational story to show how this grant helped at-risk youth establish healthy habits and raise their self-esteem.
