Leslie Richardson Memorial Swan & Sparrow Scholarship Fund
Established: August 9, 2020
Leslie Richardson spent her life bringing joy to others through song. An alumna of Howard University and a classically trained vocalist, Leslie sang at amazing and historic venues - often with world-renowned artists - all over the world.Leslie was deeply devoted to her family, friends, Howard University and the D.I.V.A. Inc. Society, whose symbol is the swan. The word "sparrow" in the scholarship named after her reflects the beautiful song of the sparrow, a bird that also symbolizes joy and protection.
The Leslie Richardson Memorial Swan & Sparrow Scholarship Fund recipient is a high school senior who has a demonstrated love of music and who wishes to pursue the craft at a historically or predominantly black college or university (HBCU). The recipient should hail from Virginia; Washington, D.C.; or North Carolina. Born in Washington, D.C., raised in Richmond, Va., Leslie spent the last several years of her life entertaining crowds in Charlotte, N.C.
Her passion for and commitment to music and the arts was an example that others emulated.
