In memory of Ruta Nene: A loving mother to Shaan and Dilan, a devoted wife to Ananth, a joyous daughter to Ravi, and an always positive presence for her brother Sachin. For the rest of us who knew her, we knew her beyond friendship. She was laughter, she was dance, she was companionship, she was music, and she was a smile. She was Ruta.

Ruta, in her career as a physician, exemplified compassion above all else. She touched many lives every day; for her, it came as second nature. She fought a courageous battle against cancer and her time with us was cut short. But in the life that she lived, she lived it in full, she lived it with love, and she inspired the best in each and every one of us. In honor of Ruta, as we reflect on how she touched our lives, and to celebrate that, a memorial fund in her name has been created. The purpose of this fund will be to support charities that would mean the most to Ruta.

A primary benefactor of the fund is the Shiva Yog Ashram led by Guru Aama. Through Ruta's journey, Guru Aama spent a tremendous amount of time with her family; she herself became family. Guru Aama Radhika is a Spiritual teacher from Nepal (Guru Aama means teacher-mother in Nepali). Born in Taplejung, near the foothills of the Annapurna Mountain range, her journey began with a profound awareness of her purpose: to bridge the divides fragmenting human life, transcending barriers of religion, gender, caste, region, and class. From her early childhood her heart was full of the glow of sympathy and compassion to fellow beings.Guru Aama works form a profound understanding of the universality of the message of spirit and social commitment to us and others. She has been outspoken and fierce in raising awareness, educating, and challenging deeply rooted social norms that keep women and other social groups in a state of vulnerability. She has given voice, listened to, and created a safe space where so many could find understanding, shelter, or whatever they were seeking at that time. In 2023, Guru Aama was recognized by the Prime Minister of Nepal for her important work in the field of spirituality, yoga, and healing. Guru Aama’s entire existence is based on helping those in need. With your donations, we hope to expand Guru Aama's work and inspire countless others in the way we have been inspired.

The Ruta Nene Memorial Fund provides direct grants to organizations exempt from federal taxation under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code as well as organizations that have undergone an equivalency determination to establish a good faith determination that a non-US organization is the equivalent of a US public charity, namely the ashram, Shiva Yog Sadhana Kendra Nepal. Thank you for your fully tax-deductible donation to this fund.
