The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia has awarded $855,000 in grants to 51 nonprofits—its largest annual distribution to date and a $50,000 increase over last year—through its Community Investment Funds (CIF)Environment Fund, and Ross-Roberts Fund for the Arts. Ranging from $5,000 to $30,000, the grants reflect the Foundation’s commitment to trust-based philanthropy, providing flexible, general operating support to empower nonprofits in advancing their missions.
Each award aligns with one or more of the Foundation’s four strategic pillars, which guide its vision for a resilient, inclusive, and thriving region.

"Community Lodgings is honored to be awarded by the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia in support of our Youth Education Program. Serving students from the Arlandria-Chirilagua community, this grant allows us to expand the social-emotional learning aspect of our programming, and provide therapeutic counseling groups for middle school and high school students dealing with high levels of stress and anxiety. Groups will focus on coping skills, emotional regulation and stress management to support our youth during these difficult and uncertain times facing our immigrant communities."


Girls on the Run of NOVA          $15,000

"When you look at what today’s kids face on a regular basis - social media, bullying, stereotypes, academic pressure, body image - it comes as no surprise that our local youth have identified mental health as one of our community’s most pressing challenges. This season, our participants at Girls on the Run of NOVA will explore topics like identifying and talking about emotions, seeing things from someone else’s perspective, switching out negative self-talk for positive self-talk, and more. While mental health challenges affect us all, some face more barriers to accessing structured support than others. This grant to GOTR NOVA breaks down these barriers for participants who don’t have the means to pay a registration fee, ensuring that our fun, interactive, confidence-building lessons can be for everyone.
