Annual Gala Raised Over $530,000 to Support Critical Needs in the Northern Virginia Region
Mark A. and Brenda L. Moore of the Mark and Brenda Moore Family Foundation were recognized by the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia for their history of passionate leadership and philanthropy with the 2017 Community Leadership Award at the Raise the Region Gala held on Friday, October 6, 2017 at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner.The Community Leadership Award is the longest standing community based recognition award in Northern Virginia. The award is presented annually for outstanding commitment and dedication to improving the quality of life for all Northern Virginians.
“We are thrilled to honor Mark and Brenda Moore with the 2017 Community Leadership Award,” said Eileen Ellsworth, President and CEO of the Community Foundation. “They are strong philanthropic leaders and are active and engaged in the causes they care about.”
With the incredible support of the Gala Committee, Board of Directors and staff, the Raise the Region 2017 Gala hosted more than 600 business leaders, philanthropists, and community organizers. The event raised over $530,000 to support the Community Foundation’s work and mission to grow philanthropy to respond to critical need and seed innovation in Northern Virginia, thanks to so many generous individuals, corporate partners, and supporters.
The event also marks the launch of the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia’s Permanent Fund, a community endowment which is a forever source to provide critical support for those in need in the Northern Virginia region, to seed innovation, and make a lasting difference in our community. Currently the Permanent Fund is $3 million and the goal is to grow it to $7 million by June of 2019.
Along with the dinner and award ceremony, guests at the Raise the Region Gala participated in live and silent auctions that included luxury gifts, bucket list experiences, date nights, quick getaways, themed baskets, souvenirs for sports fans, and more. The live auction offered luxury vacations in Florida, Lake Tahoe, Hawaii, and more; fine dining opportunities; sporting events passes and event suites; a week-long luxury car rental; jewelry; fine art, and more.
Dorri C. Scott, Publisher & CEO of VA WOMAN Magazine Group, served as the Mistress of Ceremonies, and Matthew Quinn, Executive Vice President of Quinn’s Auction Galleries, served as the event Auctioneer.
