The Community Foundation for Northern Virginia announced that it has awarded $85,500 in total grants to four local nonprofits who have been chosen as the recipients of the 2020 Latino Engagement and Achievement Fund (LEAF), which provides grants to organizations supporting the Latino population’s path to civic integration in American society.
This year’s winners are BEACON for Adult Literacy, Catholic Charities Diocese of Arlington Manassas program, Edu-Futuro, and Literacy Volunteers of America - Prince William, Inc.
The grantees will use the LEAF funds to promote Census 2020 education and outreach efforts to the Latino community in Northern Virginia to minimize the chances that residents in hard-to-count communities are left out of the census count.
Grantees and amounts:
BEACON for Adult Literacy: $7,500
Catholic Charities Diocese of Arlington Manassas program: $24,000
Edu-Futuro: $30,000
Literacy Volunteers of America - Prince William, Inc.: $24,000
For the first time, the Census Bureau is collecting the majority of census information online and has suspended door-to-door outreach and canvassing for now due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
You can do your part to inspire others. Tell everyone—your friends and family, neighbors and co-workers—that you will complete the census, and that they should respond too!
