This interview is with Deborah Krat, Community Foundation Gala volunteer.
Do you work full time or are you a student?
I am an Education Manager for the Society for Technical Communication.
How did you find out about the Gala volunteer opportunity?
Through Volunteer Fairfax, Volunteers for Change program.
Why did you want to serve as a Gala volunteer?
I wanted to volunteer at the Gala because I was interested in volunteering for the silent auction and wanted to see how they work. I also help setup conferences and education sessions for our annual conference at work, but we do not offer a silent auction portion.
What was your volunteer role at the Gala?
I helped sell tickets for some auction items, watched auction items during the bidding process, collected receipts and bidder information, assisted with bidding, and helped clean up.
Why is volunteering important to you?
Volunteering is important to me because it gives me more events and activities to plan over the weekends and after work. It also has helped me get through tough emotional times in the last year, and I'm able to help give back to the community and to those less fortunate than me.
Any closing thoughts?
I enjoyed working at the Gala and will look out for similar events through Volunteer Fairfax. I learned a lot about the silent auction, and about the bidding process and technology about ClickBid.
