In 2021, one in five families did not earn enough money to meet their basic need for shelter, food, medical treatment, and other goods; an additional nine percent could not cover these basic needs and also pay for licensed childcare. All told, well over a quarter of the region’s families (29 percent) were struggling with income inadequacy. To cope with rising costs, families at all income levels and difficulties with expenses are changing their spending and financial habits.
Register below for a presentation of the Community Foundation’s new research report, Getting By.
Speakers
Elizabeth Hughes, our Senior Director of Insight Region® and author of the report, will be sharing her analysis of the region’s income inadequacy, discussing how families across all income levels are adjusting their behaviors and how these adjustments impact their short-term and long-term economic well-being.
She will be joined by Acacia James, Reporter with InsideNova, and Andrea Eck, Executive Vice President of Programs with Northern Virginia Family Service, to shine light on income inadequacy in Northern Virginia.
We hope you’ll join us for this presentation and discussion to follow. Continental breakfast will be provided for in-person guests.
Due to limited space in the Penthouse Conference Center, in-person registration is now full. Please register below for virtual attendance only.
