NOVA Parks
Paul Gilbert, a lifelong resident of Northern Virginia, has made significant contributions to the environmental, historical, and economic success of the region. As the Executive Director of NOVA Parks since 2005, he has overseen the creation of 18 new parks, the acquisition of over 2,500 acres of parkland, and the development of innovative revenue streams. Under his leadership, NOVA Parks has also taken the lead in protecting rare and endangered habitats and establishing natural resource banking programs. Paul's focus on sustainable growth and community engagement has positioned NOVA Parks as a regional leader in conservation and recreation.
Beyond his work with NOVA Parks, Paul is deeply committed to education and leadership development. He serves as Executive in Residence at George Mason University, where he teaches strategic leadership and advises the Recreation Management Program. His leadership insights are also shared through his two published books and numerous articles on management and organizational growth. Paul's dedication to public service extends to his roles in civic and community organizations, including serving on the Fairfax County Economic Advisory Commission and as past Chairman of the Visit Fairfax Board.
His achievements have earned him notable recognition, including the 2022 Freedom Fund Award from the Fairfax NAACP and the 2017 Distinguished Alumni Award from George Mason University. Through his leadership, philanthropy, and community involvement, Paul continues to shape the future of Northern Virginia.
